No-exam life insurance
Which applicants qualify for fast-track underwriting, the process it follows, and what to expect if you do not qualify.
Many carriers today offer fast-track underwriting: within certain age and amount thresholds, they make decisions using your application, prescription information, driving records and other available data, bypassing the medical exam. Some decisions arrive within hours. Each quote shown here indicates whether an exam will be required, might be required, or is not expected for that product.
What it changes
Skipping the exam does not eliminate underwriting. Your answers are reviewed carefully, and a policy issued based on false statements can be contested within the first two years. If the carrier finds reason for concern in its review, it reserves the right to require testing or lab work; you decide whether to move forward.
Who tends to qualify
Typically people younger than sixty, requesting amounts under the carrier's accelerated program limits, without serious health events, and with no tobacco use within the past year or two. A recent visit to a physician that included blood work might be acceptable by some carriers as an alternative to a separate exam.
When an exam is required, you typically meet with a paramedical examiner for 20 to 30 minutes at your Salinas-area residence or workplace, at no charge. For many applicants with good health, exam results can actually move you to a lower rate class, so it is often a positive step.
